Celebrate the height of summer with the art of natural materials. Take a summertime stroll through the Natural Path Sanctuary at the Farley Center for Peace, Justice and Sustainability in Verona to see how local artists are using the forest as their canvas during the seventh bi-annual Land Art Exhibit. The installation, titled Peace Songs — which runs from Aug. 9 to Oct. 31 — is a showcase of sustainable outdoor art made up of only decomposable materials, making for a thought-provoking demonstration of the harmony that exists between art and nature. The exhibition will kick off with an acoustic folk and pop concert by songwriter and activist Twila Jean, on opening day from 1-3 p.m. at the Bur Oak Welcoming Area at the Farley Center.

Something our editors are obsessed with this month

Wisconsinites could probably benefit from cutting down on alcohol consumption. Mock & Co. makes it so we can, without having to give up our state's signature cocktail: the old-fashioned. The non-alcoholic drink startup based in Fitchburg recently released its rendition of a canned Wisconsin old-fashioned, minus the brandy. Mock & Co.'s beverage includes flavors of orange, cherry and lemon; a hint of spicy ginger emulates alcohol; and gentian herb adds a taste of bitters. Mock & Co. suggests enjoying one of these canned beverages at the lake, a supper club, a tailgate or a meat raffle. Those sound like perfectly appropriate places to incorporate a newly fashioned old-fashioned into Wisconsin's most beloved traditions. Read more at madisonmagazine.com.
