'Petrified' Connery hated Bahamas scene

'Petrified' Sean Connery refused famous James Bond scene

Sir Sean Connery was one of the more physically imposing Bonds we've seen on screen. The tough 6'2" Scot had been a boxer and nightclub bouncer before he landed one of the most famous roles in British cinema.

Even Connery had his limits though and the strapping actor was petrified to film a key scene in the fourth movie in the franchise – Thunderball.

In the 1965 film, Bond heads to the Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Agent Emilio Largo in an international extortion scheme.

Connery is said to have been unhappy when he read the script for Thunderball and realised that a scene contained one of his biggest fears.

In the movie, Bond appeared to be his usual suave self, but behind the camera there had been some terrifying near misses in the thrilling scene.

Director Terence Young later also admitted some of the shots of Connery's terror were very real.

What was it that Connery was so afraid of though?

Henry Golding dismisses Bond rumours

Henry Golding

Henry Golding has shut down rumours that he is in the running to suit up and be the next Bond. The Crazy Rich Asians star confirmed that producer Barbara Broccoli has not spoken to him about the coveted 007 role.

In a red carpet interview with Variety, during the recent Golden Globe Awards, Golding discussed his rumoured involvement with the franchise.

"I think there's a few guys that have, sadly I'm not one of them," Golding said of speculation he had met with Barbara Broccoli.

"But I do know for a fact that the cogs are in motion for Barbara, so I just wish them the best. They're going to choose the right and the most appropriate Bond."

The 35-year-old added that he would still like to be involved in the franchise in some capacity.

"I'd love to be in the Bond universe, not specifically Bond, but let's play in that sandpit. I'll play OddJob, it doesn't matter."

Golding, who starred in Last Christmas alongside Emilia Clarke, would face stiff competition for the spy role as several actors are currently favourites on the UK bookies lists.

Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page and Lucien Laviscount are high on the next Bond odds, with the leaderboard changing regularly.

The best Bond Villain quotes

Bond villains

From Dr. No to Jaws to Le Chiffre, the Bond villains have some of the best one-liners in the franchise.

Bond's many memorable nemeses always have an evil plan to reveal or a quip about how 007 is going to meet his sticky end.

A good Bond baddie can even make the film, with many of the classic villains becoming fan favourites. Here are some of our favourite quotes from Bond villains.

"You are just a stupid policeman...whose luck has run out." – Dr No. to Bond, in the titular film Dr. No, (1961).

"As you can see, I am about to inaugurate a little war..." – Blofeld explaining his evil plans in You Only Live Twice, (1967).

"No, Mr Bond! I expect you to die!" – Auric Goldfinger making his intentions known in Goldfinger, (1964).

"She sent you up to me knowing you're not ready, knowing you would likely die. Mummy was very bad." – Raoul Silva in Skyfall, (2012).

"Look after Mr Bond. See that some harm comes to him." – Hugo Drax in Moonraker, (1979).

"Twelve seconds. One day we must invent a faster working venom." – An exasperated Blofeld in From Russia with Love, (1963).

"You're a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr Bond." Mr White in Spectre, (2015).

"Intuitive improvisation is the secret of genius." Max Zorin dispensing advice in A View to a Kill, (1985).

"There are worse things than dying, hombre." Franz Sanchez philosophising in License To Kill, (1989).
