Traffickers jailed for exploiting 14-year-old girl

JUSTICE UPDATE: A man and woman have been jailed after a teenage survivor courageously testified against them in court. The survivor was forced into commercial sex work when she was just 14 years old, after originally applying for a job as a waitress.

She was referred to our Lighthouse, a safe haven for children who have been sexually exploited. Our key workers provided counselling and other support throughout the court process.

Thank you for supporting Hope for Justice and empowering results like this!

Hope for Justice has launched 'Keeping Kids Safe in the Digital World' on our online Learning Academy portal.

The course is free and available to access here. Please share the course with friends, parents and teachers. You can also learn more in this digital brochure.

The problem of online enticement and online sexual exploitation of children is vast and growing. Children are targeted across messaging apps, social media, and gaming platforms.

Laura Levy, Head of Learning at Hope for Justice, said: "This is one of the most important and potentially impactful courses that Hope for Justice has developed for parents and caregivers."
News updates
News, stories and announcements from the past month:

Highest number of potential victims

For the first time, the number of potential victims of modern slavery has exceeded 4,000 in a single three-month period. This was the number of people referred into the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), which is the UK's framework for identifying potential victims of modern slavery. Read more.

'Do not punish survivors for coming forward'

Hope for Justice joined with UK anti-trafficking organisations to issue a joint statement after a recent front-page story in The Telegraph. This and other recent headlines seem to be part of a political agenda to restrict the already basic (and inconsistent) support offered to modern slavery survivors in the UK.

Dozens of modern slavery cases identified

Hope for Justice has had dozens of referrals about potential victims of modern slavery as a result of a multi-agency partnership in West Yorkshire. Our multilingual Community Engagement Specialists are supporting West Yorkshire Police, Kirklees Council, and other partners and charities.

  • A survivor of modern slavery has received £2,000 after three-and-a-half years of delays to her compensation application. While Monika's claim was eventually successful, far too many other survivors cannot get compensation. Hope for Justice has found that it is incredibly challenging in practice, even when survivors technically are eligible.

  • Ethiopia's white 'shamma' shawls, made with soft cotton and embroidered edges, have been made in southern Ethiopia for decades. But child labour in this traditional industry is rife, with poverty and trafficking networks driving young boys to Addis Ababa and Chencha, the centre of the trade. Read the story of Daniel, who spent two brutal years in exploitation

  • Next week, Aaron Robinson is running a 200-mile ultra-marathon without breaks in aid of Hope for Justice. Check out his JustGiving page and please lend him your support for his phenomenally ambitious challenge!

Shout out
A well-deserved shout out and massive round of applause to Clive and everyone involved in the Strictly Stortford Fundraiser.

Clive has been organising a Strictly Come Dancing fundraising event in support of Hope for Justice for more than two years, and in June this dream finally came to life. As part of the event, 16 wonderful people spent months learning their dance routines and raising funds for Hope for Justice.

The show took a whopping 33 people to organise, run and participate: dancers, dance teachers, costume designers, stage managers and more. We could not be more thankful to each and every one of them as their hard work definitely paid off! Not only was the show a hit, but the event raised an incredible £15,350 for the work of Hope for Justice. What an incredible outcome! THANK YOU.
