| | Huge £250m A38 upgrade scheme heading back to court | | | | | The controversial £250 million A38 Derby junctions road scheme is heading back to court again. In 2021, local residents successfully challenged the project and the court found that then Transport Secretary Grant Shapps had failed to consider the cumulative impacts of carbon emissions when approving the scheme. But, in August this year, Transport Secretary Mark Harper gave the A38 scheme the green light again.Now, Mrs Justice Jefford granted the case permission to go to trial after hearing arguments from both the Stop the A38 Expansion campaign group, Department for Transport and National Highways. | | Massive student buildings planned for Nottingham | | | | | Two massive student buildings could be built in Nottingham - with one of them set to become the tallest in the city. Plans have been submitted for two tower blocks, of 27 and 19 storeys respectively, to be built on the former site of Base 51, in Glasshouse Street. CODE Students' structures would house around 1,400 student beds and eclipse the Victoria Centre flats as the city's tallest building.The construction of the connected buildings, which is expected to cost around £136 million, would create 2,000 jobs and 20 to 40 roles once work was finished.
