The Mark Zuckerberg-Run Company Also Missed Wall Street's Q2 Earnings Per Share Forecast |
Meta shares opened today's trading day down 9% as Wall Street registered concern about its spending on AI. The stock, which has fallen 19% in 2026 to date, plunged Wednesday in after-market trading after the Mark Zuckerberg-led company said it plans to invest between $130 billion and $145 billion in AI this year.
The corporate parent of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp also missed Wall Street’s Q2 earnings per share forecast. It also said it anticipates softer-than-expected revenue in the current third quarter. >>>Playing Catch-Up

Riz Ahmed is used to taking chances. In 2012, he thought he was on the verge of a major breakthrough, having co-starred with James Gandolfini in the pilot for HBO’s The Night Of series, playing an ostensibly clean-cut college student accused of a brutal murder. The following year, the Sopranos star unexpectedly died at the age of 51 and The Night Of was put on hiatus for the foreseeable future. “I didn’t have anything else going on at that point,” Ahmed recalls.
Things are obviously different now. But Ahmed took a gamble when writing Bait, a six-part mini-series about a struggling actor in his native north London. Perhaps stubbornly, Ahmed refused to be cowed by the fact that he had no Plan B, and the future of the show would be decided by one woman, and one woman only. 🕯️ Jean-Pierre Dorléac, the French costume designer who won Emmy Awards for his work on TV’s Battlestar Galactica and The Lot and was Oscar nominated for the film Somewhere in Time, died July 23 of natural causes at his Hollywood Hills home. He was 83. 🕯️ Neil Reading, UK publicist to the likes of John Cleese and Dawn French, has died following a short illness.
