Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday that Americans can expect an announcement from the Trump administration this week on its plan to reduce healthcare costs. While details are scarce, President Trump has indicated on several occasions that he wants to send healthcare funds "directly to you, the people" rather than insurance companies. Trump has also said a plan should be in place by Jan. 30, with healthcare costs expected to surge in 2026 to their highest levels in 15 years. Payment of healthcare subsidies for insurance was a central point of conflict in the 40-day government shutdown. | Feds Ask Fliers to Dress Up, Be Nice The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a new campaign dubbed “The Golden Age of Travel Starts with You,” asking air travelers to dress nicely for an airplane trip, among other matters of flying etiquette. The campaign addressed the spike in in-flight altercations and misbehavior over the past five years in a retro-style TV ad mixed with scenes of misbehaving passengers. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is encouraging Americans to ask five civility questions before flying, including whether you are “dressing with respect,” “keeping control of your children,” and saying please and thank you. Many travelers are skeptical the campaign will improve travel manners, with some blaming recent behaviors on airlines “treating people like cattle” rather than blaming the passengers themselves. | Chart: Americans' Net Worth by Age A Federal Reserve survey shows that median and average net worth vary drastically by age. Median net worth in America ranges from $39,000 for those under 35 to $409,900 for those 65-74, while average net worth ranges from $183,500 to $1,794,600 for the same age groups, respectively. The survey defines "net worth" as the total of all assets, including home ownership and retirement funds, minus all liabilities, including mortgages and credit card and medical debt. The triennial Survey of Consumer Finances showed a 37% increase in overall U.S. median net worth from 2019 to 2022, representing the biggest jump since the survey began in 1983.
