Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, February 2, 2025. Where I look forward to enjoying the Grammys tonight! Word on the young people’s chat line is that Sabrina and Chappell will be teaming up for a duo performance. 😱 Okay fine, I heard it from a DJ on terrestrial FM radio this afternoon. THEN: Here are your Sundance Film Festival winners this year, with war satire Atropia starring Alia Shawkat and Callum Turner taking the U.S. Grand Jury Prize. Twinless picked up the U.S. Audience Award. AH: The China box office took in $792M over its 4-day lunar new year holiday. Then again — when the government hands out cinema vouchers to citizens . . . yeah, that’ll help. Someone pass the idea along to Sly, Mel and Jon. WELL: Gotta love a sport where 182 brain concussions were experienced by the athletes in your league during a season is good news. KUDOS: To DUKE junior Biology major Raphael Lee for this $19k-winning half-court shot on ESPN College Gameday yesterday 👇. Just goes to show ya — study hard, kids, and you too can sink a shot that covers . . . 1/4 of the cost for 1 year at DUKE UNIVERSITY. 🤦♂️ FINALLY: Just sharing a good NYT “life perspective” read that I find valuable, citing some insights that folks who work in hospice care have learned from those they care for about how we spend the time we have here. Near the top of the list? Wishing that they hadn’t let key relationships whither over the years and not making an extra effort to reach out to get together with friends as time goes on. So, if like me, you have a person in your life that you’ve thought “Ah, I should really call them and catch up soon” too — no time like the present! Well uh, right after reading the box office chart, of course. WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLLHow about that Dog Man! Kudos to the 16% — I was with you in spirit. AND: My apologies to paying Ankler subs, but due to the, uh, popularity of “unpaid sharing” on my past few Sunday Box Office breakdowns — gonna have to click one button to continue on here tonight. I know, I get it . . . but newsletter technology has shockingly only come so far. I promise you a nice gif on the other side.
