| Rachel Morrison made history as the first woman to earn a Best Cinematography Oscar nomination, as well as an ASC nomination, for her work on 2017’s Mudbound. Now she has graduated from cinematographer to director with her first feature film, The Fire Inside, which opened Christmas Day in wide theatrical release. | Jason Momoa, star of Warner Bros and DC‘s Aquaman films, has been tapped to play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa has been linked to the role since before James Gunn came in to lead DC alongside Peter Safran. He’s been vocal in the past about his interest in the part and confirmed his attachment to the role in a post on Instagram Monday. Exclusive Josh Duhamel, Dylan Sprouse and Til Schweiger have wrapped on the Mississippi production of The Neglected , an action thriller co-written, directed and produced by David Lipper. In the film, Detective Shaw (Duhamel) is about to retire when he finds out that a serial killer has buried his son alive. He then races against the clock to solve three murders and find his son’s location before he runs out of air. |

More News ⚮ Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have settled their divorce after eight years. In a statement to People magazine, Jolie’s lawyer James Simon said the pair had signed off on the settlement Monday. 🎦 The French box office edged up by 0.5% year-on-year in 2024, hitting 181.3M admissions and an overall gross of roughly $1.36B, according to France’s National Cinema Centre. The NCC said that while the overall admissions figure for 2024 remained some 12.8% below pre-pandemic levels, the results were encouraging, especially for local filmmakers. Local titles accounted for 44% of revenue. 👋 More change is afoot on the Warner Bros. Discovery board of directors as Li Haslett Chen has announced her plan to resign her seat in January. Chen, a tech executive, was one of the original board members designated in 2022 as WarnerMedia was getting set to merge with Discovery. 🍏 Apple will offer streaming service Apple TV+ for free during the first weekend of January in a global promotion. |
| Obituaries 🕯️ Aaron Brown, an anchor who earned widespread praise for incisive reporting and calm demeanor during CNN‘s coverage of 9/11, has died. He was 76. Brown died on Sunday, the network said, quoting a statement from his family. No cause of death was given. 🕯️ Angus MacInnes, a Canadian actor who appeared in 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and 2016’s Rogue One , died Dec. 23, per a family statement.
