☀️ Christmas Dominates NETFLIX Movie EngagementJJ gets new WB deal / Which colleges are the biggest 🏈 TV draws / Oscars finally do streamingMornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY, December 11, 2024. Where we need to start our day with a kudos to Tom Brady (he’s big on affirmations) for getting $9M for his watch collection that went up for auction at SOTHEBY’S along with other memorabilia (a game-worn helmet went for $102k, although if it was a JETS game . . . not sure that’s a real deal). That’s just over the top number expected going into the auction, so enjoy that holiday money ALTHOUGH: Tom is no Dorothy — the ruby shoes from the Wizard of Oz just sold for over $32 Million at an auction, including auction house fees. THEN: DISNEYFOX’s Springsteen movie is now shooting in Asbury Park and the iconic Stone Pony this week — seriously, no one got in touch for restaurant recs for where to get the good sauce? Come on, people! Your loss . . . WOOHOO: The Oscars are finally coming to streaming! The show will livestream on HULU next year (and be available for on-demand viewing starting the next day). SORRY, FOLKS: No more annual $3 movie “National Cinema Day” celebration in 2025 — NATO is shifting the initiative to 4 themed ‘celebration’ days during the year, including one centered on uh, popcorn. YES: Jason Kelce’s wife Kylie now has her own podcast too. No word on an accompanying $100M AMAZON deal . . . but she did top the charts on her first day of release. See you on episode 20. D’OH: The INFOWARS / ONION deal has been shot down by a bankruptcy judge, saying that the trustee of the INFOWARS business did not seek out the maximum value for the property for creditors.
PLUS: More than 1,000 college athletes entered the “transfer portal” for next season (essentially the free agency process for “student” athletes to switch schools — and for some, get more NIL money elsewhere 🤑). The day-one number doubles last year’s.
BUT: As for AMAZON’s next move into market disruption by entering the . . . car sales market 👀 — well, #BigTech may be in for a long 4 years under Trump’s new FTC Chair pick Andrew Ferguson: “We will end Big Tech’s vendetta against competition and free speech.” AH: Core inflation (excl. food and energy) didn’t get any worse . . . or better in November, with prices again +0.3% vs. the previous month, and +2.7% vs. Nov. 2023 — still above the Fed’s 2% goal.
FINALLY: Here are your PGA Best Documentary nominees:
OTHERWISE IN THIS EDITION: Outside of the top headlines — a busy day of new Yellowstone project news, another old movie franchise continuation for the big board, the reuniting of the golf world finally appears to be on the horizon (with big Saudi money), Soderbergh sets plans for his next pic, ANGEL picks up a big project, and . . . yeah let’s just get moving. 📽 THE SILVER TV 📺Subscribe to The Ankler. to unlock the rest.Become a paying subscriber of The Ankler. to get access to this post and other subscriber-only content.
