The gasp in the room when Hacks bested The Bear for best comedy series was evidence enough that it was a more interesting than usual Emmys night — but has Hollywood already gone right back to business as usual today?
That’s one of the many questions I get into on today’s special post-Emmys edition of the Prestige Junkie podcast. My colleague Elaine Low, who watched Bob Iger and John Landgraf celebrating the big wins for Shogun and The Bear at the Disney party on Sunday night (who were they talking to? Elaine knows!), shares her observations from the awards as well as what she’s hearing about how any of this might affect which shows get made in the future.
The episode also includes my conversation with Karla Sofia Gascón, the magnetic star playing a drug cartel leader who starts a new life following gender confirmation surgery in Netflix’s major fall film Emilia Pérez. Gascón joined her co-stars Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez for the film’s latest smash festival premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival — though as she told me, she’s already ready to leave the red carpet glam behind.
