Decision due on massive Leicester Railway Station redevelopment

A decision on whether Leicester railway station can undergo a massive revamp is due within the next few days. Councillors will meet next week to decide on the £22 million scheme.

The Leicester City Council plan would see the station's entrance moved around the corner to Station Street which would in turn be closed to traffic.

A new pedestrianised public area would be created on the space which was previously home to the Parcel Yard pub.

Pick-up points, including for taxis, would shift from inside the station to a parking area behind it, off Fox Street, close to the new entrance.

Officers have recommended the plans be approved by the council's planning committee, saying it would improve the experience for passengers and enable the station to handle the expected increase in users.
