They then targeted the Rasidpur village, roughly 7km away, triggering separate gunfights with village volunteers and police, which resulted in the deaths of four more people. Members of the Metei community reside in both villages. While police said that the situation in the area was tense but under control, Saturday’s violence was the deadliest in the northeastern state this year and highlighted an escalation in hostilities between the ethnic groups.
