Potential strike action at Rolls-Royce as workers reject pay offer

Workers at Rolls-Royce in Derby are to vote on whether strike action will take place after employees rejected the latest pay offer in an ongoing dispute with the engine manufacturer.

GMB union members working on the nuclear submarine programme will begin balloting on Monday, with the result expected after four weeks.

Rolls-Royce says it is "disappointed" that its latest offer has been rejected by the union but that it remains open to "further discussion".

GMB's Mick Coppin said: "These are highly skilled workers doing vital work for Britain's defence infrastructure.

"They've been driven to balloting after months of managers stubbornly refusing to shift on pay."

Still no opening date set for revamped Cornhill Market

City of Lincoln Council is still "working on a date" to announce the opening of the revamped Cornhill Market.

The £10 million renovation of the Lincoln market started in 2022, with a completion date set for Christmas 2023.

Councillors have said that, so far, only 18 businesses have shown interest in the stall spaces which equates to about half of those available.

At a full council meeting, Cllr Naomi Tweddle said that there was "uncertainty" among traders about moving in.

"We've had over 175 expressions of interest shown by businesses," she told the meeting.
