Alongside the job cuts, eBay will scale back the number of contracts within its “alternative workforce” over the coming months, Iannone added in the note. Tech SpecialAI probably won't take your job — yet Will artificial intelligence take our jobs? Silicon Valley executives might think so, given the capabilities of today's AI systems. However, a new paper from MIT researchers offers a different perspective. Conducted at MIT’s computer science and artificial intelligence laboratory, the study not only explores AI capabilities but also assesses whether it makes economic sense for firms to replace human tasks. The findings indicate that, while computer vision AI can handle tasks equivalent to 1.6% of U.S. worker wages, only 0.4% of the economy is currently cost-effective to automate. This suggests a more gradual scenario for AI job displacement, leaving room for potential government policies and retraining programs to address unemployment impacts. Apple targets 2028 release date for its own electric vehicle Apple has shifted gears on its long-standing automotive venture, now focusing on an electric vehicle (EV) akin to Tesla's rather than a fully self-driving car, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The "Apple Car" is now expected to launch in 2028, two years later than initially planned. Initially targeting Level 5 autonomy, the car's features have been reduced to a Level 2+ system with partial automation, including lane centering and driver-assist functions. This strategic pivot is viewed internally as a pivotal moment for Apple, with the success of the pared-down project determining its future. Despite the shift, Apple still aims to offer a Level 4 autonomous system eventually, with talks ongoing with potential manufacturing partners in Europe. Google Chrome adds new AI features to boost productivity and creativity Google's latest Chrome update, Chrome M121, introduces new generative AI features for improved user experience. These include a tab organizer, a writing assistant, and customizable artwork and themes. To enable these features, users must activate the "Experimental AI" toggle in the Settings menu. The Tab Organizer automatically suggests ways to classify open tabs and create groups based on topics. Clicking 'Organize Similar Tabs' aggregates relevant pages, simplifying tab management. For example, shopping-related tabs can be grouped under a name like 'Ski-trip shopping gear.' In addition, Chrome's new text assist tool serves as an experimental feature to aid users in drafting text, including Google reviews or social media posts. By selecting "Help me write," the tool can complete sentences or provide suggestions for continuing the text, enhancing the writing process.
