Work to start on world's tallest student housing scheme in Yorkshire

The tallest student accommodation building in the world is set to be constructed in Leeds, as part of a £500m funding deal.

A gym, yoga studio, cinema, games room, co-working, group dining and shared outdoor spaces are just some of the features the skyscraping Cirrus Point will have once it is completed, standing 45-storeys high, making it the tallest building in the West Yorkshire city sa well as the tallest of its kind in the world.

The purpose build student accommodation building is one of five being delivered by London based investment firm Cain International, which has completed a £500m forward-funding deal with Israeli insurance group Menora Mivtachim Group.

The deal will also support schemes across university cities in York, Manchester, Nottingham and Liverpool - further evidence that the student accomodation market shows no signs of slowing down.

The property is currently where BBC Children's and Education and some BBC Sport and operations staff are based, but it announced last November that it would be moving out and relocating to nearby MediaCity sites, as part of plans to "deliver a simpler, leaner and more efficient organisation".  Read the full story here
