One person died while attempting to escape rising waters with their dog. [USA Today] More than 5 inches of rain fell in Vermont's capital Montpelier Monday. State authorities have rescued 100 stranded residents. Conditions improved Tuesday but officials urged residents to avoid floodwaters and heed warnings. [Vox / Rani Molla] Israel rages against judicial overhaul demonstrations Tuesday, thousands of people took over the streets and blocked Israel's main airport in renewed protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's divisive judicial reforms. [BBC / Raffi Berg] Tensions erupted a day after Netanyahu's ultranationalist, hardline government pushed forward a bill that limits the Supreme Court's power to review government decisions. Netanyahu's government says the new legislation is needed to rein in judges.
