☀️MORE Layoffs, Filmmaker Fury: WBD's Very Bad Week ContinuesOSCARS change Best Pic release rules / More Pro Sports teams add Streaming / SONY Pics shuffles Fall datesMornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY June 22, 2023. Where… ”David, I have a… Steven, Marty and Paul on line 2 - they say it’s urgent, should I put them through?” Spielberg, Scorsese and PTA requested a call with Mr. Zaslav yesterday - apparently they were not too enthusiastic to hear that Zaz gutted TCM management as part of the layoffs this week 😳. The 3 are lead members of the FILM FOUNDATION, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of classic cinema that is (was?) in a partnership with TCM. The trio were “heartened and encouraged by the conversations we’ve had thus far” according to a statement released last night… although I don’t think anyone’s getting their job back. ALSO: Maybe the Feds are the ones who can get PRIME VIDEO subscriber numbers out of AMAZON? The FTC is suing AMAZON for duping millions of consumers into signing up for PRIME, and “sabotaged” their cancellation attempts - noting that while ordering things is a “one-click” procedure… the PRIME cancellation process was a 4 page, 6-click process on desktop, and even more arduous on mobile. Just me or does this kinda feel like Capone getting nabbed for tax evasion in the end? Either way it sounds like hiring all of those folks from the gym memberships industry was a mistake 😬.
AND: SNL will do a 50th Anniversary extravaganza show at RADIO CITY next year as part of the festivities. It’ll be on a Friday night sometime around the SUMMER OLYMPICS, probably on PEACOCK (Lorne says due to the language, and letting the show be as long as it’s gonna be), and will be the kickoff to the SNL50 Celebrations taking place next year. IN TODAY’S EDITION:
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL:Where are we on No Hard Feelings? 3000 screens. Tracking has it at a troublesome $12 Million (for the $45+ Million movie, most of which… I’m guessing didn’t go to the crew). Let’s just call it straight up:
