While politicians, regional leaders and businesses across the UK continue to mull and dissect the positives and negatives of Jeremy Hunt's Spring Budget, we can always rely upon property conference Mipim to spread some sunshine with its exciting announcements.
Previous years have seen UK cities unveil a raft of big projects - and this year is no different. Day one gave us news of Meadow Lane in Leeds, a new development opportunity announced at a historic gateway to the city centre, as well as Cityheart and Wigan Council's plans for an 84,000 sq ft leisure development, complete with a 700-seat cinema.
Day two has delivered the Home Office's confirmation plans for a base in Stoke-on-Trent, expected to create 500 jobs, plus the launch of Space City Leicester, a cluster on the former Pioneer Park development aimed at creating more than 2,500 jobs. The space cluster takes in some £233m of existing and planned buildings on land to the north of the city centre, with the aim of attracting millions of pounds of investment and attracting more cutting edge firms to the city. Read more on the scheme here.
The delegations at the top property conference have also been updated on progress on the construction of the One City Park office building in Bradford, plus plans to build the Maritime Knowledge Hub – a world-leading maritime centre of excellence – focused on innovation, engineering, R&D, entrepreneurship and training have been approved.
Set within the 19th century Hydraulic Tower building and Engine House, its approval was announced at Mipim by Richard Mawdsley, Peel L&P's director of development for Wirral Waters. |
