Yuga Labs, the parent company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club, has acquired WENEW Labs and its flagship NFT collection, 10KTF. WENEW, an ‘NFT powerhouse’ known for its partnership with brands like Louis Vuitton and Puma, was founded by digital artist Mike Winkelmann, aka Beeple, alongside Michael Figge, Guy Oseary, and Tim Smith. The company is also behind 10KTF, an interoperable digital storefront where holders from blue chip NFT collections can mint one-of-a-kind digital wearables. “Figge, Beeple, and the WENEW team have found a way to create a captivating serialized story for Web3, while also managing to tap into the passion people have for their digital avatars and customization,” said Greg Solano, co-founder of Yuga Labs, in a press release. “Storytelling and world-building are foundational at Yuga and I’m thrilled that we get to work with the creative mind hive at WENEW in a much more robust way." Figge will join Yuga’s leadership team as its chief content officer, while Beeple will sign on as an advisor. Nearly 20 WENEW employees will follow them to Yuga, bringing the company’s full-time staff to over 100 people. Visa ends debit card partnership with FTX
Payments company Visa has terminated its global agreements with FTX amid the crypto exchange’s ongoing collapse. "The situation with FTX is unfortunate and we are monitoring developments closely," a Visa spokesperson told Reuters. "We have terminated our global agreements with FTX and their U.S. debit card program is being wound down by their issuer." In October, FTX partnered with Visa to release crypto debit cards in 40 countries with a focus on Latin America, Europe, and Asia. “We believe that digital currencies will have a lasting impact on the future of financial services and money movement,” said Visa’s Head of Crypto Cuy Sheffield at the time. “We’re excited to partner with leading crypto exchanges like FTX to bring more flexibility and ease-of-use to the way people use their crypto.” Visa joins a long list of companies that have distanced themselves from FTX, including BitPay, Robinhood, Coinbase, Circle, and Genesis. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos plans to give the majority of his fortune, estimated at $124 billion, to charity during his lifetime. In an exclusive interview with CNN, Bezos said he will dedicate most of his net worth to fighting climate change, as well as supporting people who can unify humanity in the face of deep social and political divisions. Bezos was interviewed alongside his partner, the journalist-turned-philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, in his Washington, D.C. home. While Bezos didn’t share any specific details on where he’ll direct the money, when asked if he plans to donate his wealth within his lifetime, he responded, “Yeah, I do.” “The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way,” Bezos said. “It’s not easy. Building Amazon was not easy.
