Bond frontrunners now out of the race due to shock new height and age rules

Producers want Daniel Craig's replacement to be in his 'late 30s'

There's a huge development in the race to be the next Bond with the news that the new 007 will be aged under 40 – meaning the current favourites for the role will be considered too old.

And the next 007 also has to be over 5ft10 – ruling out other potential candidates for the spy role.

A source claimed Eon Productions (who produce the Bond films), want a "fresh-faced" star instead of an older actor that they will get less mileage out of.

This would mean fan favourites such as Henry Cavill, 39, Idris Elba, 49, and Tom Hardy, 44, are ruled out and wouldn't star in Bond 26.

Meanwhile, 007 hopefuls Regé-Jean Page, 34 and Richard Madden, 36, could be in prime position for the part.

Bridgerton star Page is currently top of the ongoing Bond odds and was recently endorsed by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, as their top pick for the next 007.

Richard Madden is another strong contender for the role and is known for starring as David Budd in the Bodyguard TV series. Madden is also known for starring alongside Kit Harington in Game of Thrones as Robb Stark and as Ikaris in Marvel film Eternals.

We hopefully won't have to wait too long for a casting announcement as the insiders also claim that filming on the next Bond movie could start as early as winter 2023.

Connery scene is a key part of Bond audition

Sean Connery

It may be decades since we last saw him suit up as James Bond but it seems Sean Connery is still influencing the franchise.

Talking about the audition process to play 007, Daniel Craig revealed there is tradition amongst the producers with each hopeful having been asked to reenact a classic From Russia With Love scene.

The audition is simple: replicate a scene from Connery's second Bond movie where he hears something in his hotel room while running a bath. The spy puts a towel around his waist before grabbing his pistol and stepping into his bedroom. There, he finds Tatiana Romanova undressed in his bed.

Watch the classic scene here.
