Architects, employers and property developers are continually looking at ways to create stimulating work environments. Breakfast bars and coffee machines in swish kitchens, pool tables, giant TVs and cafes don't cut it anymore apparently, and firms are certainly getting creative to entice people to ditch homeworking for good and get back into the office. In London, plant suppliers are seeing a boost from businesses looking to spruce up offices with lush plants, inside and out. And we've reported on a number of firms transforming offices to include outdoor or rooftop terraces, including this one in Leeds. That backs up JLL's recent survey in which 41% of workers put outdoor space in their top 3 of workplace expectations. Radius in Crewe this week took office perks to a new level, appointing a contractor to build its new office which will come complete with a Star Wars themed sky bar, an outdoor seating and yoga area, a barista coffee bar and pizzeria. You won't find the Tatooine Cantina Band in the latest office conversion in Newcastle, but it'll certainly bring back memories of gigs and club nights for several generations. John Dobson House - home to the architect of most of Newcastle city centre and one-time nightspot - has been bought by GT3 Architects, who will move in once it has been transformed into new four-storey offices. The firm has all sorts planned for the space, which you can read about here. Meanwhile in Birmingham, a new restaurant is set to open on the 24th floor of office building 103 Colmore Row. Development work on the 26-storey building is nearing completion and a string of lettings have been announced for the office space. Once workers move in they'll have access to the modern French restaurant called Orelle, as well as a café and terrace at street level. Read more on that here. |
