Monthly RE Update – May 2022
Our monthly market intelligence report on renewables covers the following content:

  • Tenders – In May 2022, 31 new renewable energy (RE) tenders with a cumulative capacity of 3123 MW were issued.
    • MSEDCL and UPNEDA issued 431 MW and 98 MW solar tenders respectively, under Component A of KUSUM scheme while MPUVNL floated 1250 MW solar tender, under Component C.
    • GUVNL issued a tender for purchase of power from 500 MW from wind power projects (Phase III) with 'Greenshoe option' of additional 500 MW in Gujarat.
  • Auction Completed: In May 2022, auctions were concluded for SECI's 1200 MW Tranche V hybrid tender, SECI's 1200 MW Tranche XIII wind tender and RUMSL's 600 MW floating solar tender.  
  • Installed Capacity: In April 2022, a combined total of 1511.62 MW of solar and wind capacity was added, taking the cumulative RE capacity to 111.39 GW.
  • Key deals/ financing trends:  In May 2022, more than $2 billion was invested in the RE sector in India.
  • IEX – PXIL GTAM Trend: The IEX and PXIL together traded a total of 450 MU in GTAM in May 2022, which is 43% higher than the volume traded in April 2022. The average trade price in IEX-GTAM for May 2022 was INR 7.49/kWh, while for PXIL it was INR 8.7/kWh. This is approximately 22% and 24% higher than the respective previous month's prices.
  • Module price trends: Domestic module prices have shown an upward trend in May 2022 as well with a m-o-m increase of around 3%.
  • Policy and regulations: In this month, 10 central and 12 state-level policies/ notifications/ regulations/ orders were issued.

Monthly EV Update - May 2022
Our monthly report on electric vehicles (EV) is a useful guide for automobile manufacturers, OEM suppliers, and investors to keep abreast of the latest updates in the sector. This monthly update covers the following content:

  • Product Launches:  9 new electric vehicles were launched, including 6 E-scooters, 2 E-cars and 1 E-Cargo vehicle. 4 new launches are lined up for the upcoming months.
  • EV Sales Trends: The overall EV sales in May 2022 declined again to 66,745 units, registering a m-o-m decrease of 8.6%, but a y-o-y leap to 20x, as the sales in May 2021 were strongly hit by COVID-19 second wave.
  • Policies and Regulations: Several Central and State-level policy developments took place with Convergence Energy Services (CESL) planning to tender 50,000 electric buses on behalf of states in the next five years and the Delhi government approving the deployment of 1,500 low-floor electric buses into its public transport fleet.
  • Charging Infrastructure and Battery Swapping: Fresh updates on new charging infrastructure /battery swapping including EV manufacturer BYD's tie-up with three EV charging network players in India to access nearly 1,000 EV charging stations.
  • Deals & Investments: 7 new financial deals amounting to ~US$174 million closed, 2 acquisitions worth US$180 million and multiple investment plans announced.
  • JVs & Partnerships: 15 new announcements during the month.
  • Tenders: 3 new tenders tracked.
  • Global Market Updates: Prominent EV-related developments captured.
