Look, I need to level with you really quick. I can't seem to get motivated this morning, and it may have something to do with the fact that I can't stop watching videos of a TikTok grandma who speaks in the vocal pattern of a surfer bro and has puka shells braided into her hair. It's hypnotic and I can't decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I am able to watch it whenever I want. I'm trying to remember what it felt like to just have a telephone and a television with a hazy picture, back when we used to have to churn our own butter and make our own fun. Would I be happier without the TikTok surfer grandma? I'll have to keep you posted. One element of our online life that never gets me down is the Thrillist newsletter. Today we have: a tutorial on how to eat soup dumplings, a travel guide for Hanoi, a whistleblower-themed cocktail recipe, and a national parks packing list. I'm off to rub two sticks together to try and make a fire. It's time to get back to the basics. - Ned Riseley, Senior Copywriter |
