Kyunki School Bhi Kabhi Zaroori Tha

You know that phrase, love thy neighbour? Well, when you have Chaddhaji as your next-door neighbour, you start your day by asking for patience more than love. The other morning, I jolted out in panic upon hearing a sound which could best be described as a stray in labour. But no sooner had I stepped onto the balcony that I saw Chaddhaji from the corner of my eye in the middle of feverish arm waves and, I want to guess, yodelling. I caught him in between breaths to ask what's the matter for this early morning jubilation and he replied, rather boisterously, "aaj saare bacche school gaye. Finally...Aakhikaar...Azaadi". There are seven - of all ages - in his joint family. And clearly the online-class-is-on curfew at home for the past two years had a severe impact on whatever mental health he was left with. As a parent to two hoomans who drag the three doggos too into their online classes, I agreed with him for a change. Not that I am ungrateful for the blessings, but every once in a while, the grown-ups need a break.

One thing that's worrisome, though, is the rising mercury. For whatever Met department's predictions are worth, a severe heat wave is predicted. Be it kids, office-goers or even night owls who love to make every night a Friday night, everyone is facing the heat. In these difficult conditions, help the strays and birds and leave water and food for them. And lastly, in the spirit of benevolence and beginnings, the festival season is here with the Hindu nav varsha and Ramzan coinciding to make for beautiful times. In case you are fasting and feasting, we have curated places serving culturally-rich foods and soulful musical gigs. Have a happy weekend.

Jake Gyllenhaal: Skill of Bollywood actors is unsurpassed, we don't have that in Hollywood

"I am inspired by Indian culture, particularly Indian movies. The films in Bollywood are so inspiring to me. The creativity in them, so much of the acting in them. I think the skill that so many Bollywood actors have is just unsurpassed," says American actor Jake Gyllenhaal adding, "To be able to sing, dance and act at the same time is a real requirement, which we don't really have much in Hollywood. I have so much admiration for the filmmaking and the acting coming out of India." Read more about his admiration for all things India here.

The Garden of Heaven is the first in a quartet of novels set against 800 years of Delhi's history. Starting with the fall of Prithviraj Chauhan, Madhulika Liddle's book spans 200 years of Delhi as it chronicles the lives of two families of stone carvers who carry on their trade and attempt to please their changing masters. Liddle's characters use storytelling as a tool for healing, for rejuvenating the body and soul.

#WeekendJam

Tune in to what gets Aparshakti Khurana grooving.

Tere Karke - It has got the right words, right music and Jeona Sandhu's voice adds magic to this song. It legit makes me get up and groove to the beats.

Chand Baaliyan - It's soothing to listen to and there's a constant smile on my face whenever I listen to it. This song is a big stress buster for me.

Dobara - I love the classical touch that has been given to this song. He genuinely knows his sound to the Teeeee.

Gul - It mesmerises me every time I listen to it. The lyrics make you think and that's what I love about it.

Roz Roz and Dhoondti Firaan - These songs are like a breath of fresh air. They're different, unique and yet have a familiarity.
