The Bond reunion that almost happened

We almost had a Bond reunion

Kingsman: The Secret Service director, Mark Millar, has revealed that the film almost got all six 007 actors together for the ultimate cameo.

Talking on the James Bond A-Z Podcast, Millar disclosed there were plans to make a teaser trailer for the 2014 movie Kingsman: The Secret Service, that would have reunited all six James Bond actors.

This legendary line-up would have included Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, and they came achingly close to an incredible super spy trailer that would have surely wowed film fans.

As a British spy comedy series, the Kingsman franchise has several cheeky nods to the 007 films and bringing all the Bonds together on the big screen would have been the ultimate wink to the audience.

You can read the full story as to why it never happened here.

As part of James Bond's 60th anniversary, all 25 Bond movies are returning to UK cinemas this year in 4K from now until October 2022.

All the Bond films are being shown chronologically throughout the year in Vue and Odeon cinemas starting with Dr No, which is out now, and concluding with No Time To Die in September, ahead of Global James Bond Day on October 5.

James Bond fans all over the UK and Ireland are estactic that the birth of the Bond franchise, Dr No, has returned to cinema screens and have taken to social media to share their reactions.

Cary Edwards said: "Really made me appreciate it more - the pace felt zippier, and the humour really came across well. Felt like watching a new film."

Guy Brasher tweeted: "The standout for me was the colour. At a time when major British films were still in b&w, the Caribbean sea and skies must have been spectacular in 1962, and were still inviting today."

Chloe McFarlane said: "My favourite Bond film for sure!"

Next Bond: Daniel Craig backs 'fabulous' One Direction star

Next James Bond: Daniel Craig backed Niall Horan - but will he take it?

Surprising Bond news of the week is that Niall Horan, one of the members of pop band sensation, One Direction, has had his odds slashed to 100/1 on becoming the next Bond.

We did not see this one coming.

The pop star originally showed some interest in becoming the next 007 in 2015. 1D - who had not broken up at the time - appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden where Niall did an uncanny impression of Bond, sparking rumours that he might be interested in becoming the next star for the role.

Former 007 star Daniel Craig was asked at the time by Capital FM what he thought of Horan taking over as the super spy.

He simply replied: "Good man!" The Spectre actor then explained the singer would be "absolutely fabulous" in the role. Craig even went so far to say that Horan "would do the role justice" after he stepped down.

The real-life inspiration for Dr No

Dr No, played brilliantly by Joseph Wiseman

In the 1962 movie, Dr No, Bond finds himself in the underground base of the dastardly title character, played brilliantly by Joseph Wiseman.

Dr No is a classic, unhinged Bond villain who plots to disrupt a US space launch with a radio beam weapon.

The secret lair is delightfully gauche and typical of the ostentatious secret lairs we've come to expect of the secret franchise. But what is the inspiration for these secret hideaways?

Author Mark Simmons believes that some of the scenes in the original 007 books were inspired by Bond creator Ian Fleming's experiences.

Delving into Fleming's real-life adventures during the Second World War, the author found that many of the most famous Bond moments reflected Fleming's own experiences.

In the case of Dr No's secret lair, the labyrinth of tunnels and rooms built into the side of an island mountain is believed to be inspired by the 34 miles of tunnels built inside the Rock of Gibraltar, which Fleming visited numerous times during the war.

The Gibraltar tunnels, built over 200 years, turned the Rock into a huge underground fortress capable of accommodating 16,000 men along with their supplies - just like Dr No's island hideaway.

Mark explains: "Fleming spent a lot of time in Gibraltar, which was the location of the operations centre for Operation Goldeneye.

"It's easy to see how that inspired the rocky warren of rooms and tunnels where Bond is imprisoned and eventually escapes in Dr No."
