'Love Hostel', 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela', 'Ishaqzaade' & More: 5 Times When The Cost Of Love Was Life

The trailer of Love Hostel starring Sanya Malhotra, Vikrant Massey and Bobby Deol looks intriguing as the story revolves around the concept of honour killing. Two people who are in love but have to pay the price of love, through their lives perhaps. While one will have to wait to draw conclusions and find out if Sanya and Vikrant are able to save themselves from the killer Bobby, it reminds me of few films, where love was chosen at the cost of life.

Of course, the biggest example of that is Mughal-e-Azam which is one of the most iconic films defining Indian cinema. Emperor Akbar disapproves of his son Saleem's relationship with a court dancer Anarkali and that leads to a war between the father-and-son.

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT)

QSQT which was Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla's debut film was a first-of-its-kind take on tragic love stories like Romeo Juliet and Heer Ranjha in Hindi cinema. It was such a well-made film with music that continues to remain so fresh and soulful till today. QSQT is eternal I think, even if the characters didn't have a happy ending.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela can be called a masterpiece owing to its performances and just the way the director has presented the story. Rajadis and Saneras are at war with each other since the last 500 years! Ram and Leela who belong to these respective clans, fall in love and obviously what that leads to, is guns and bloodshed.

Ishaqzaade

Religious differences and the backdrop of politics act as a trouble between Zoya (Parineeti Chopra) and Parma's (Arjun Kapoor) relationship which initially starts off as a revenge. Later, the two fall in love and the kind of love and chemistry which melts your heart. It's again a tragic end which can shatter us as viewers at that point because this was also such a well-made film by Habib Faisal, just like the ones mentioned above. Such a great start by Arjun Kapoor into the movies and of course, this was Parineeti's first full-fledged film after her earlier stint in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. Such impressive work.

Clearly, love stories have their set of target audience and somehow, even tragic love stories have been popular successful just because of the way they connected deeply with the audience and made them feel the pain too. Let's wait and watch, if Love Hostel follows suit of these other movies and be successful too.
