On Saturday, BCCI named India white-ball captain Rohit Sharma as India' full-time captain for Tests whereas Jasprit Bumrah was named his deputy. The star opener Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as the Test captain in the series vs Sri Lanka. The BCCI also announced India squad for the 2 Test series against Sri Lanka – SL.
The 1st Test against Sri Lanka takes place on 4th March in Mohali whereas the second Test is a day-night affair in Bengaluru from 12th March onwards. Rohit Sharma has become a vital member of the Test side since the last couple of the years and has become a mainstay at the top of order as well. Virat Kohli has been rested from T20I series but will return for the Test matches whereas Rishabh Pant will miss Sri Lanka's entire tour of India along with Shardul Thakur.
Though the India had other options like KL Rahul ,Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant to consider for the Test captaincy, but the selectors decided to go with the experience of Rohit Sharma as a stop gap option.
